How Botox Works
When a muscle contracts again and again, the skin above it folds, and over the years those folds become etched-in lines. Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that gently interrupts the nerve signal to the targeted muscle, so it relaxes and the skin above it smooths. Untreated muscles keep working normally, which is how a skilled injector preserves your natural expression.
Results typically appear within 3 to 7 days and last about 3 to 4 months. Treatment of the frown lines between the brows is the FDA-approved use; areas such as the forehead and crow’s feet are treated off-label by experienced injectors every day.
